Nikolaus Stein ist Fotograf. Stein – in den frühen 90er Jahren in Oberösterreich geboren – versieht sein Werk mit autobiographischen Bezügen und einer radikalen Hantologie. In seinen Bildern schaffen die unauflösbaren Widersprüche zwischen Tradition und Wurzellosigkeit, Heiligem und Profanem, Tragischem und Lächerlichem faszinierende Szenen, die immer auf das eigentliche Thema seiner Kunst hindeuten: den menschlichen Verstand selbst. Nikolaus Stein ist Alumnus der Ostkreuzschule für Fotografie und lebt derzeit in Berlin.

Nikolaus Stein is a photographer. Born in Upper Austria in the early 90s, his work is consistently permeated by autobiographical references and a radical hauntology. In his pictures, the unresolvable contradictions between tradition and rootlessness, the holy and the profane, the tragic and the ridiculous create captivating scenes, always hinting at the true subject of his art: the human mind itself. Nikolaus Stein is an alumnus of Ostkreuzschule für Fotografie and currently lives in Berlin.
